New Mexico participates each year in the National Senior Games. Recently held in both Albuquerques and Santa Fe, one of the events is Air Gun. We were well represented this year by three members of the club who placed quite well. This year’s games were shot upon wonderful electronic targets. Please see this report:
Bob Guarnieri, Ken Nicholson and Ron Sweet participated in this year’s Air Gun Event at Eldorado High School, sponsored by City of Albuquerque for their 50+ Games on Saturday, January 11.
Four shooting events comprised the day’s activities: Supported Air Rifle consisted of an eight-minute period for sighting followed by a twenty-minute period to shoot twenty record shots. Then, Standing Air Rifle, Supported Air Pistol, and Standing Air Pistol events followed the same format.
All shooting was done at ten meters onto the appropriate air rifle and air pistol targets. (The air rifle target is very challenging. Its ten ring is a 0.5mm diameter dot.)
Bob Guarnieri earned four Gold Medals in his (60s) age group: 184 in Supported Rifle, 108 in Standing Rifle, 174 in Supported Pistol, and 144 in Standing Pistol. Bob used the range’s guns.
Ken Nicholson (70s age group) did remarkably better this year in Standing Air Rifle with one of the provided guns, 121 out of 200 was 3rd in his age group and earned a Bronze Medal. Ken shot a Daisy air pistol in the Supported Air Pistol Event. Ken was 5th with a score of 91 of 200. trial-and-error basis.) Then, in the Standing Pistol Event, a score of 173 of 200 earned him 1st place and the Gold Medal. (Because it was allowed, he shot this event with both hands.)
Ron Sweet (70s age group) received a Bronze for Supported Rifle and a Silver for Standing Rifle while using a range rifle. Then, he earned a Silver medal for Supported Pistol followed by a Bronze for Standing Pistol with his personal air pistol.
Congratulations to Bob, Ken and Ron for representing the club in the 50+ Games
